The Krugerrand 1 Oz gold coins have been minted since 1967, making them the first modern gold investment coins. The name Krugerrand is derived from the name of a Boer general and later president: Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger (1825 - 1904 ) and the name of the South African currency Rand. The Rand is also an abbreviation of the South African territory "Witwatersrand", a rich gold deposit discovered in 1886. The President is depicted on the obverse of the coin. The reverse of the coin is decorated with the motif of a leaping antelope - the national symbol of South Africa, the year, the inscription "FYNGOUD 1 oz FINE GOLD" and the name "Krügerrand". Krugerrand gold coins are the most popular gold coins in the world, with approximately 60 million produced to date, which are readily accepted on all world markets. The issuing country is the guarantor of purity.
