Common wombat (Vombatus ursinus), also known as bear wombatis one of the three living representatives of the of the family Wombatidae (Vombatidae) and the only representative of the genus Vombatus.
The common wombat is a 0.7-1.2 m long animal with a stocky body, a broad and angular head, massive limbs, a bare snout, a 2-3 cm long tail, a weight of 14 to 25 kg, and coarse and dense, usually olive green to almost black fur.
It lives a solitary lifestyle for most of the year. It burrows relatively large, highly branched burrows with only one entrance, which it can build even in difficult terrain, aided by its strong claws on its limbs. Even when it is 0 °C outside, the wombat's burrow is at a temperature of 16-26 °C.[2] Old males tend to be highly territorial and often attack mammals that invade their home ranges. However, humans are usually not at risk from these marsupials, but they can cause significantly less effective fencing against rabbits, which is widely used in Australia. The common wombat usually rests during the day and forages for food mostly at night. It is sheltered from direct sunlight, but if the sun's heat is not strong, it likes to bask in the sun.
Wombat dung is angular in shape, so they are shaped like cubes. Another interesting fact is that wombat feces are stripped of almost all moisture when excreted
